My latest design was finally released Monday, July 15th on the cover of God Spare Life by Dr. Claudia Thomas. This is the autobiography of a remarkable woman I have been fortunate enough to meet and help bring her story to the public through WME Books. I am thrilled to be a part of this exciting release, I am sure it will sell well as it is a story that we can all relate to. Dr. Thomas has overcome what might seem like insurmountable odds, she lived through the 60s as a black student at a nearly all-white college, she survived a ravaging hurricane and kidney disease that should have killed her. Along the way she became our county's first female African American orthapaedic surgeon. This is a must read. It is a human story that will touch and inspire.
God Spare Life was a great book cover to work on because Claudia was brave enough to entrust us with her life's collections of photos, magazine and newspaper clippings. I sorted through piles of pictures to come up with what was included on the front cover. Also, on the front cover is a beautiful symbol that Dr. Thomas came across one day carved into the doors of a church. She was drawn to the symbol because it looks like two kidneys. Part of her extraordinary life story includes a life saving kidney transplant donated by her sister, coincidently the symbol means "God is in the heavens" and symbolizes hope--a major theme in her book. The symbol is Adinkra. Learn more here about Adinkra symbols.
