I have never been one to make a project I see on a craft show. I don't follow along like some hosts seem to imply, I don't take notes and make it later, I watch with curiosity and for inspiration but it usually ends there. Well yesterday I was taking in an episode of Martha and the guest, Liz Smith was making a polymer clay covered egg. It just so happens that last week I bought a pasta machine with a 50% off coupon and a few packs of Sculpey on clearance. I have been thinking about applying some of my designs to alternative media. I needed to play around and get acquainted with the medium so I thought I'd try this project. Well I got to use my conditioning (pasta) machine, rather meditative I must say. So I made a blend using the skinner method, created canes with a spiral core and covered my blown eggs. I didn't have an official acrylic roller to smooth things out so I used a AA battery. I didn't have a polymer clay knife so I improvised with a craft knife. I made two eggs one was lumpier than the other. I baked them on a bed of polyester stuffing pulled from a throw pillow on my couch that has needed some repair. Oh sweet PROCRASTINATION, THANK YOU! My son and I did go out today to get sand paper to smooth and buff them up. I haven't decided if I am going to varnish them or not. I am in the process of buffing them on my jeans. How's that for using available materials. I am so pleased with how they turned out! Photos coming tomorrow.
